what makes a classic/collectors car ?
my dad has a 1988 e30 m3 and he says the car is a collectors classic car....i always thought that was code for: the car is old.
but i later found out that classic hot rod are worth a lot of money, and not every car can become a classic or collectors car
so what make that car a classic or collectors? is there a difference? and could my 93 mr2 become a classic?
Well, a classic car and a collector's car can be two different things, but a car can be both.
Usually, a classic car is a car that is older than 20-30 years that was considered to be a great car of its time. However, everyone has a different definition of what cars fall into that category... When I think of a classic car, I think of something from the 70s and earlier, but some may think of some of the 80s cars as classic.. such as the Delorian
Now, a collectors car is usually a classic car that is either very hard to find (usually meaning there were only a few 100 made), in mint condition, or a car that is now or was originally a popular car.
However, there is such a thing as a NEW collectors car.. which is a modern car that was only produced in limit quantities.. there for, it is / will be popular among collectors.
Also, a car that is "old" does not necessarily make it a collectors or classic car... esp if it is a car that is in poor condition and there were plenty of them produced.. for example.. a 1980 honda... However, there may come a day when it will become one just because there will be very few of the left.
