What can I do now to help my chances of getting a job at Pixar Animation when i'm older?
I'm 14 and I have my head set on moving to California and getting a job as an animator, writer or director at Pixar Studios. I really want to get a headstart now and i've realised that the GCSE options i chose really weren't the best options for this job. What kind of A-Levels could I do and what could i do out of school to help me achieve this dream?
The best advice I can give you is simply practice. If you want to be an animator at Pixar, you'll need to know the right software. Many of Pixar's top directors attended CalArts and its Character Animation program, so that might be an option. The best thing you can do is start now. Invest some money in the latest animation software and making sure your computer is able to handle it (memory, hard drive space, etc.), then practice in your spare time. The same goes with being a writer. One suggestion would be to write a short screenplay and then make an animated film out of it, then submit it to Pixar.
I should advise you not to expect them to accept you on your first application (although they might). I've applied to Pixar twice for artist positions and was rejected both times, but plan to keep trying because I want to work at Pixar as well. So even if you're rejected, keep practicing and resubmitting. Perseverance pays off.
As for A-levels, I'm afraid I don't know much about that. However, I found a website that I hope helps you out. Best of luck to you.
